What kind of a movie is considered to be European?
All movies that are created by the members of the EU[1], by the countries participating in Creative Europe MEDIA[2] programme or Switzerland.
Where can I check if a movie is European?
There isn’t one database in which you can find a list of all European movies. We use the EUROPA CINEMAS database EACEA database the Movie Database (TMDb) the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) to check if a movie is European.
Is it possible to upload more than 10 movies?
No, every user competing for the first prize must upload a total of 10 European films before the end of the competition.
Can I replace any uploaded film with a new one?
Yes, you are allowed to replace any uploaded film with a new one. However, this function will be disabled 10 days before the end of the contest. You should be aware that if a film is deleted, the points received for that film will be lost.
I would like to upload a movie that was released in 1960. Is this movie eligible for the contest?
Yes, there are no restrictions on a film release date. Films are considered eligible for the contest if they originate from a country that is a current EU member state or participant in the Creative Europe MEDIA programme, even if the country was not an EU member or participant in the Creative MEDIA programme at the time the film was produced.
I would like to share my photo on Twitter or Instagram, but the platform only offers Facebook.
Because of the policies of Twitter and Instagram, it is not possible to share information directly from our platform, but you can do soon your own: upload a picture, add the hashtag #europeanfilmchallenge, indicate the name of a movie and the place where you watched it. Pictures shared in this way will be accepted in the contest.
Will a movie theatre, and a film festival hosted at the same movie theatre, be considered as two different platforms?
Yes. In such cases, a movie theatre and a film festival are considered as two different platforms.
How the score system works?
For a European movie – 4 points
For each different platform used to watch a film – 3 points
You will have the chance to collect extra points along the contest period. Information on extra points will be announced at the website www.europeanfilmchallenge.eu and will be posted on the social media channels of European Film Challenge.
Can I upload a movie that I saw a year ago?
No. Only movies that are watched during the period of the contest are eligible.
